Angel of the Warsaw Ghetto

Irena Sendlerowa, at the age of 98, passed away this morning.

She was the force behind 2,500 children being rescued from the Nazis. She organized, implemented and oversaw the relocation of Jewish children threatened by the German occupation of Poland. At one point when Irena herself was captured and tortured, she refused to divulge any information that would endanger the children or the Catholic families that took them in. Without her cooperation there was no way the authorities could track the children because she alone knew the facts related to each case.

Her life's work was social welfare. Biographical articles of this angel of the Warsaw ghetto indicate that she cared about people - not their race, ethnicity, social status or politics - she actively cared for people her whole life.

Please say a Divine Mercy Chaplet for this kind woman.

El Maleh Rachamim
G*d, full of compassion, dwelling on High, grant perfect rest under the sheltering wings of Your Presence to Irena Sendlerowa. May her soul be bound up in the bond of life. Amen.

I don't know what the rules of the Church are for canonization, but if ever a person deserved such an honor, it is surely she.
